يُعد مسجد العسقلاني في مدينة عدن من أعرق المعالم الدينية والتاريخية، حيث يعود تاريخ تأسيسه إلى نحو ستة قرون. ينسب المسجد إلى الإمام الحافظ ابن حجر العسقلاني الشافعي، الذي أقام في عدن لمدة ستة أشهر في العام 806هـ. وقد خُصص هذا المسجد تخليدًا لذكراه العلمية والدينية.
شهد المسجد عدة مراحل من التجديد والترميم، أبرزها ما قام به الشيخ علي بن عبدالله اليافعي في العقد التاسع من القرن الثالث عشر الهجري. ثم أعيد بناء المسجد بالكامل في العام 1369هـ، حيث جُدد بطراز معماري حديث، يجمع بين أصالة الفن الإسلامي وجماليات العمارة المحلية، وقد تولى عملية إعادة البناء الشيخ علي بن عبدالله اليافعي، وأشرف عليها الشيخ سعيد بن أحمد بارحمة.
يمتاز المسجد بتصميمه المربع وبنيته الهندسية اللافتة، إذ تتزين أركانه الخارجية بمجسمات بارزة وأشكال زخرفية متنوعة، وكان من أبرز أئمته وخطبائه فضيلة الشيخ محمد بن سالم البيحاني، الذي كان له دور كبير في نشر العلم والدعوة من منبر هذا الجامع.
كما يحتوي المسجد على مكتبة علمية ثرية تضم العديد من الكتب والمراجع القيمة، مما يجعله مركزًا دينيًا وثقافيًا مهمًا في عدن.

Al-Asqalani Mosque in Aden: Six Centuries of History, Knowledge, and Architecture
Al-Asqalani Mosque is considered one of the most prominent religious and historical landmarks in the city of Aden, with its foundation dating back approximately six centuries. The mosque is named after Imam Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani Al-Shafi’i, who resided in Aden for six months in the year 806 AH. It was established in his honor, commemorating his scholarly and religious legacy.
The mosque has undergone several phases of renovation and restoration, the most notable of which was carried out by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Yafi’i in the ninth decade of the 13th century AH. Later, in 1369 AH, the mosque was completely rebuilt in a modern architectural style that harmoniously blends the authenticity of Islamic art with the aesthetics of local architecture. The reconstruction was led by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Yafi’i and supervised by Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Barahmah.
The mosque is distinguished by its square layout and remarkable architectural design. Its exterior corners are adorned with prominent structures and various decorative motifs. Among its most notable imams and preachers was the esteemed Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Al-Bayhani, who played a significant role in promoting knowledge and religious teachings from the pulpit of this mosque.
In addition, the mosque houses a rich scientific library containing a wide range of valuable books and references, making it an important religious and cultural center in Aden.
